EBAY KEYWORDS LISTING TITLE WRITING TIPS

Posted by ebayprofitmaster on June 7, 2010

It can be somewhat difficult to get the highest number of buyers to see your listing, because many buyers only search by title, meaning that you only have access to the 55 characters in the title tab in order to grab their attention. So here are some helpful tips to accomplish that.

Don’t waste precious characters with hype text like “mega rare special item, very low price” Nobody will be searching for these words, and it reduces the available space left for anything that a potential buyer will be searching for. If you do it you just lost a buyer!

Think the way that your buyer does. If you wanted to buy something, what would you type in to find it? It would probably help to try searching yourself, see how many of a similar item appears each time you vary the words, that way you can see what the best of the competition do. They can be your best teachers.

Enter exact information. Make sure that you enter the item’s brand and exact model number in the title, as many people will only enter this exact text. State exactly what the particular item is.

Here are some examples of ebay keywords listings.

Below is an example of an eBay listing right now, which is quite good.
“DELL OPTIPLEX GX60 DESKTOP 2.0GHZ 128MB 40GB XP PRO”

If you know about computers, you’ll know instantly what this auction is selling. It has manufacturer (Dell) and product line (optiplex); followed by a few technical specifications (2.0 GHz is the processor speed). Notice also that the title includes the word “desktop” so that anyone just doing general searches for desktops will see it in their results.

It could have been slightly better if either of the words “PC” or “computer” could have been added to it, just in case people are also searching for text like this, but you can be sure to grab a very large part of the buying public with this listing simply by having the word “desktop” in the listing.

Next example, which is excellent.
“OASIS – TIME FLIES 1994-2009 (3 CD & DVD) *NEW CD”

This listing for a CD is very good indeed as it lists the artist name first, followed by the album name. It then also lists the years, and includes include the two key words “CD” and “DVD”, as well as the word “new” practically everyone will be able to find this listing if they are searching for “new oasis cd” (although putting the word “album” in there would not have done any harm!)

Next example, which is pretty good.
“GB 1840 penny black KG pl2 mint no gum stamp 3 margins”

There are far less listings of this next example. The penny black stamp is one of the oldest and most famous stamps. This particular listing uses some of the key words that collectors would consider important: “three margins” means that the stamp has been cut out but does not have one of the borders around the stamp, although the stamp itself is in mint condition (according to the rest of the listing text). It does not mention having a certificate of authenticity, but this is not that important (as certificates can be faked) and does not mean that this is not a genuine penny black stamp. (Indeed coa’s are being faked with such skill these days that they are not always trusted anyway!)

The important thing is to try and use every single character of available space that you can entirely for relevant item details.

Now that we have looked at the EBAY KEYWORDS LISTING TITLE WRITING TIPS, we next need to turn our attention to a great description.
