The beginners guide to using ebay

Posted by ebayprofitmaster on January 6, 2010

Ebay has been around since 1995, and was the creation of Pierre Omidyar.

He wanted the website to be a simple online marketplace, and he actually created the very first code for it within just one weekend.

At the time the website was unique, being the first of many auction websites.

The name eBay simply comes from the domain used for the website, Echo Bay.

Interestingly the very first thing that was ever sold on the website was Omidyar’s old broken laser pointer, which he managed to receive $14 for.

The website has since become hugely popular.

The website was designed from the very beginning to collect fees on every sale.

When the fees became more than Omidyar’s salary, he quit his job and worked on the site full-time.

In 1996 the feedback facilities were created that allowed buyers and sellers to rate each other and this made buying and selling safer.

In 1997 the eBay logo was designed, and it was also in this year that the millionth item was sold, which was a toy version of Big Bird.

Ebay encouraged people to start selling more than just collectibles, and became the website you know today where you could buy or sell almost anything. Unlike most of the other websites around at the time, eBay of course survived the end of the dot com bust.

In 1999 eBay went worldwide, and also bought half.com, which was an online retailer.

In 2000 it introduced the Buy it Now facility and bought PayPal, in 2002.

Omidyar has since been rumoured to have earned around $3 billion from eBay, and still serves as Chairman of the Board.

Millions of items are now bought and sold worldwide every day on eBay.

And now that you know a little of the history of ebay, you should now start to learn about it so that you can make money with it yourself. Which is why next time I would like to focus on the income possibilities of ebay!
